COB congratulates Bishop Domingos as 5th Chancellor of Africa University

The Council of Bishops is congratulating Bishop Gaspar Joao Domingos of the West Angola Episcopal Area on his election as the 5th Chancellor of Africa University.
Bishop Domingos will be inaugurated as the 5th Chancellor at the virtual 27th Graduation Ceremony set for July 3, 2021, at 09:00 a.m. Central Africa Time. Bishop Domingos is preceded by Bishop John Yambasu who died tragically on August 16, 2020, in a car accident and was subsequently inaugurated as the 4th Chancellor of the university posthumously.
“The Council of Bishops congratulates Bishop Domingos as he assumes this important role as the 5th Chancellor of Africa University. Bishop Domingos’ leadership will be important to the ongoing exemplary education of the University,” said COB President Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey.
The 27th edition of the graduation ceremony will see 524 students graduate with 59.9% of this number being female. About 24 nationalities will be represented namely Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, DRC, Ethiopia, Eswatini, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Lesotho, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome Principe, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Bishop John K. Yambasu, the Resident Bishop of the Sierra Leone Area of The United Methodist Church, died in a road accident this morning (August 16, 2020) just outside Freetown in Sierra Leone.
